Avocado

Nobody writes poetry
About the avocado
Yet, I think, in honesty
That people really ought to

It may not be a luxury
Like truffles, figs, or dates
Versatile as summer squash
Or elegant as grapes

Who’d extol its mashy pulp?
Its sole, imposing pit?
Be so kind to praise the rind
That guards the rest of it?

It must be said: as dip or spread
Or mighty guacamole
You may not sing a song for it
But I endorse it wholly.

      1. A nice try, but sadly not! That was my first thought too, but there would be a lot more stressed sounds if that were the case.

        So here’s my hint:

        Iambic tetrameter/trimeter:
        No PERson EVer WRITES aBOUT
        The MIGHTy AVoCADo

        This poem:
        NObody writes POetry
        aBOUT the avoCADo

(Here’s a poem that alternates iambic trimeter and tetrameter: https://chalkpoetry.wordpress.com/2016/04/09/mind-your-words/. Another in iambic tetrameter: https://chalkpoetry.wordpress.com/2016/04/20/spellchek/)

      2. On reflection, some stanzas are arguably iambic. So I’ll concede partial credit.

Also, who is this? (Aside from the maternal unit)
